Our hand-crafted spurtles are based on traditional wooden Scottish kitchen tools; used to stir porridge, soups, stews and broths. The sprutle's rod-like shape means that porridge can be stirred without congealing and forming lumps by preventing the oats from being torn apart or crushed. Our spurtles are made from various types of dried aspen, birch maple or oak. Due to the distinctive qualities of the wood and the inspired creativity of our students, each item produced is a unique artistic creation. Every spurtle is finished with a food safe butcher block oil to provide protection and bring out the distinctive quality of the wood grain.
